Checkers

Checkers, called draughts in the UK, is one of the oldest and best-loved board games. Move your pieces diagonally, jump over your opponent's pieces to capture them, and reach the far side to crown a king.

Play the classic English rules everyone learns as a kid, or switch to flying kings, where kings zoom along whole diagonals and men can capture backwards too.

• Play vs the computer on Easy, Normal or Hard. The hard bot plans several moves ahead
• Compulsory captures and multi-jumps, just like the real rules. Legal moves light up so you never get stuck
• Two rule sets: Classic (English draughts) or Flying kings
• Best of 3 or 5 matches, players swap colours each game, optional move timer
• Smooth sliding moves, captures and crowning animations, chat and emoji reactions

1. Start a game: create a room and invite a friend, tap Quick match, or play vs the computer.
2. Move: tap one of your pieces, then a highlighted square. Men move one square diagonally forward onto a dark square.
3. Capture: jump over an opponent's piece onto the empty square behind it. If you can capture, you must, and you keep jumping while you can.
4. Crown a king: reach the far row and your piece becomes a king that can move backwards too.
5. Win: capture all your opponent's pieces or leave them with no moves.
6. Draw: 40 moves each with no capture or man move.
7. Flying kings rules: men may capture backwards, and kings move and capture any distance along a diagonal.
